Westchester County in New York (home to Washington Irving, author of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow), is mainly comprised of river towns that are bordered by the Hudson River. The county offers river cruises that pass several historic landmarks settled along the riverbanks, including West Point Military Academy, Constitution Island, Fort Montgomery and Bear Mountain.

The county is a short car ride away from the crowded streets of New York City. To get a sense of the rich history of the area, you can stroll past 200-year-old mansions and along working farms from the 18th century. To satisfy your love for culture, stop by the Neuberger Museum of Art to see more than 6,000 works of art, including the highly recognized African art collection. For family-fun entertainment, you can dance to the music at outdoor festivals hosted by various communities in Westchester County or you can plan a daylong adventure at the Playland Amusement Park.
