Charleston is a port city in South Carolina, which is located on a peninsula formed by two rivers flowing into the Atlantic. It is protected from the open ocean by surrounding islands. The city was captured early in the Civil War before it sustained much damage, so the older part of town has buildings that are quite old. The skyline has is dominated by the stunning Arthur Ravenel cable stay bridge.
When in Charleston, consider taking a carriage tour of the city. Several groups operate horse-drawn carriage tours of the historical sites in the city. Most of these tours leave from stands on Market Street, next to the Market itself. Equally fun walking tours include guided history tours and scary ghost tours through the streets of Charleston.
Outside downtown, there are numerous beach towns that are considered part of the Charleston area. Folly beach is the most casual, while Sullivan's Island and Isle of Palms are more upscale. The warm waters and gentle surf make for delightful swimming particularly during late spring and early fall.
This week’s news includes a pet package for a Lake Tahoe resort, guided tours of India, free stays for kids in Colorado Springs and a new South Carolina family resort.
