Actions

From its rocky coastline, to the only temperate rainforests in the United States, to the Cascade Mountains that bisect the state, Washington is a treasure of outdoor activities. Mountain climb or go for a hike on Mt. Rainier, the state’s highest point. Go whitewater rafting down the Wenatchee or the Green River Gorge. Ski on Mt. Baker. Bike or take a drive on one of Washington’s many scenic byways to see the state the way that few visitors ever do.

If you prefer to consume the fruits of the land, Washington is a delicious destination. The eastern part of the state is largely rural and is the center of the state’s rich agricultural industry. Washington leads the country in the production of apples, red raspberries, sweet cherries and hops, one of the most important ingredients in the beer-brewing process. Thanks to locally-grown hops, Washington State, like the rest of the Pacific Northwest, is a beer connoisseur’s delight. The state features more than 150 independent microbreweries. There’s also been speculation that the wine-producing region near Walla Walla is the wine industry’s next big thing.

Although nature is a major draw for tourism within Washington State, the urban side of the state is just as attractive. Seattle, the state’s largest city and most popular tourist destination, is a must. Drink-up a nice cup o’ joe in the city that pretty much invented the coffee house scene. Washingtonians also suggest not forgetting about their state’s capital of Olympia.
