This popular spot was baptized by a Spaniard as "Viridita" way back in 1850 when it was a narrow sidewalk café with 18 outdoor tables. As time went by, the place grew and the name changed to "Aerobar". Since the end of the 1950s it has been the internationally renowned "La Biela", named because many of its customers were car racers or fans of the sport ("biela" means "piston rod"). It is one of the most traditional bars in Recoleta and is situated opposite Plaza Francia, next to a huge gum tree. Do not leave without ordering a "Veredita" (special sandwich) or hot tea with pastries at around 5pm in the afternoon. The outdoor seating is great for people watching since a host of characters and a few celebrities pass by there.
