From August 8 to August 24, 2008, Beijing will be the center of the sporting world's attention, as the city hosts the Summer Olympics for the first time. Thousands of athletes will be going for the gold in a total of 302 events that will take place in 37 venues in and outside of Beijing. Included in the 37 venues are the architecturally creative National Stadium (called the "Bird's Nest") and the National Aquatics Center (called the "Water Cube" for its striking exterior appearance, though its interior is equally transcendent). If you've never been to China before, the two-week celebration of the Olympics is sure to be one of most fun-filled and visitor-friendly times to go, so pack your bags and make your reservations now!
