Here, you can see millions of gallons of water and a spectacular waterfall in a pristine setting. Do not let its beauty fool you, the reservoir's purpose is to supply the San Francisco area with water as well as electrical power. This reservoir is located in a secluded and quiet area of the park making it a great location for picnics or meditation. In addition, this place has trailheads for several hikes. The road to the reservoir is closed from October to June.

(Rating: 4) The Twin Sister Hidden Valley

by Cyril on June 5, 2008

This Hetch Hetchy reservoir is somewhat out of the way from the busy main valley floor, but it's an interesting day trip on its own. The Hetch Hetchy Valley, is the twin sister of Yosemite Valley, which was dammed by San Francisco in 1913. The dam is called O’Shaughnessy Dam and there are now efforts to explore restoration of this flooded (once beautiful) place. See http://www.hetchhetchy.org/ for details. You can talk a nice moderate flat hike across the dam and along the reservoir to see a couple of waterfalls.
